In this post I will show you how to make a bird in paper. This simple white dove of peace are easy to assemble and look beautiful as a collection. There are a few variations that I will walk you through when showing you how to assemble this paper bird.

How to make a Bird in Paper: Supplies Needed

Before we learn how to make a paper bird that flaps, prep your materials.

-Printable White Dove of Peace

-string

-colored pencils or markers

-glue

Preparing Materials: Printing Coloring Pages Memorial Day

First step in how to make a bird in paper is to print out the Remembrance Day colouring page bird of choice either with eyes closed or open. The second coloring pages memorial day that need to be printed is the wings page.

When printing out the Remembrance Day colouring page of the dove wings there are 2 options. Wings can be printed with detailed feathers. Alternatively they can be printed with just the outline. 

Choose the dove coloring pages with just an outline if you would like to write “Peace” on the wings. Or use the coloring page of a dove to make your own symbol of peace bird.

First color the Remembrance Day colouring page. Color the coloring pages memorial day of the dove and wings as well. If you are adding the branch in the beak of the paper bird, color the leaves as well. 

How to make a Bird in Paper: Assembling the Bird

Here’s how to make a bird in paper. It is simple to how to make a paper bird that flaps.

First separate your three sections. Wings, leaves, and white dove of peace page. First fold the leaves along the dotted line. Hold it up to a light to check that it is lined up on both sides. Cut out each leaf carefully. Let the leaves stay attached at the dotted line.

Next, repeat these steps for the wing page. Fold along the dotted line. Hold the wings up to the light, and lastly cut them out carefully. It is helpful to leave a bit of white trim around the edge to make it easier.

Repeat these steps for the dove. Fold along the dotted line and fold it up to a window. When cutting out the white dove of peace, be sure to leave it attached along the belly and beak. This will make it easier to assemble.

Finally, cut a short piece of string for the branch. The branch makes the symbol of peace bird evident. Now that you have your pieces cut out, it is time to assemble the bird.

How to make a Bird in Paper: Assembling the Bird

To assemble the dove, first fold one side of the wing down (the coloring pages memorial day with the full bird on it). Then flip the dove over and repeat on the second side. Carefully line up the wing tips to match.

Next fold the wing page in half with the details in the middle. Apply glue to the lifted wing. Then place the wing page to the lifted side. 

Apply glue to the second side of the wing, the body, head and tail of the white dove of peace ove. Tip: before closing the bird, place the piece of string along the beak. If you forget, it can be slid through afterwards.

Fold the bird closed and press to attach. Refold each wing down. The middle part of the wing page will be hidden inside the bird. Refolding is an important part in how to make a paper bird that flaps. Once the wings are folded it can fly around the room with ease.

White Dove of Peace: Attaching the Branch

To attach the leaves to the branch, open each leaf, apply glue and fold it around the string.

If using the blank wing option with just the outline, assemble the bird in a similar way. Once the bird is assembled then create the drawing on the wings. It is important to assemble it first as part of the wings becomes hidden on the inside during assembly. 

Now that you learned how to make a paper bird that flaps it is time to hang it somewhere and talk about the symbol of peace bird.
